Seize the Day – Get Your Motorcycle Road Ready

Motorcycle

Are you itching to get out on your motorcycle? Maybe you have already had the opportunity to ride this year. The weather this winter has been anything but predictable. Sixty plus degrees in the Twin Cities during the month of February is pretty insane.

I am guessing that if you had the chance, you got out there. You did what every motorcycle loving human being has been waiting all winter long to do. You seized the moment and had the pleasure of hitting the open road, feeling the sun on your face. While it was short lived, those few warm days were awesome.

Get Your Motorcycle Road Ready, So You Can Seize the Day!

While seizing the moment sounds pretty carefree, it actually requires a little bit of planning, especially when it comes to the health of your motorcycle. If your bike has been sitting in storage all winter, get it in for a tune-up. Having your bike tuned up and ready to go is not only liberating, but can also help extend the life of your bike.

The last thing anyone wants on that first ride is to be stranded on the side of the road due to a flat tire, dead battery, or stale gas.

If you haven’t had the opportunity, now is the perfect time to get your motorcycle ready for that first spring ride. We’d be happy to check out your bike, give it an annual tune-up, and have you ready to seize the next unseasonably warm day.

Give us a call at 763-295-2920 or set up an appointment online at http://www.moonmotorsports.com/schedule-a-service-appointment–xservice_request. Our highly-trained technicians will service your bike and have you ready to ride.

For more information and a detailed list of stunning routes, visit http://www.exploreminnesota.com/where-to-go/scenic-byways/

Ride with a Purpose

Are you a philanthropist by nature or do you have a cause that is close to your heart? Good people everywhere are coordinating motorcycle fundraising rides around town, the state, and the country. If you are into group rides, having fun, meeting new people, and raising money for a good cause, get involved.

Tune it Up for Motorcycle Season

If your motorcycle has been sitting in storage all winter, chances are it needs a tune-up. From stale gas in the tank to low air pressure in the tires, having an annual tune-up is the ideal way to ensure your bike is running smoothly and road ready. Schedule your tune up today. If you wait until one of the first warm days, you will probably have to schedule out into the future. Although everyone is daydreaming about getting out on the road, it usually takes a nice, warm day to remind people to get in for a tune up.

Interested in a new bike, new gear, or just want to talk motorcycles? Stop by our showroom. We’ve got a team of motorsport experts that love to talk motorsports. You can also check out new and pre-owned inventory online or schedule that tune up. Safe riding.

Is this it for the 2017 Snowmobile Season?

Snowmobile Season

Is anyone else wondering what Old Man Winter is up to this snowmobile season? For many, weather this winter has been a blessing, with mild temps and moderate snowfall. It is not too often that we experience 60-degree weather in the Twin Cities, during the month of February.

While it has been a pleasant change for some, the lack of snow that has accumulated and remained on the ground has been frustrating for us, the lovers of the snowmobile. We patiently (well, maybe not patiently) wait during the warm weather months. We hope for an early winter that brings plenty of snow and cold temps, to properly preserve our snow-covered playground. Although, we did have the opportunity for a little outdoor fun midway through the winter, it would have been nice if the snow would have stuck around.

Is this it for the snowmobile season in the Twin Cities for 2017?

What do you think? Is this it for the snowmobile season in the Twin Cities for 2017? Historically speaking, March can still bring us a nice amount of snowfall. While February was somewhat of a bust, there is still hope for a snow accumulating March! A few years ago, we experienced a relatively mild winter, but ended up with a decent amount snowfall that went into the month of May.

While the Twin Cities hasn’t been the best destination for snowmobiling in the last month, there is still hope. There are areas around the state that have snow and groomed trails. If you are looking for quick weekend getaway for a little fun in the snow, check out this listing of snow depth and groomed trail conditions at http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/snow_depth/index.html

Let’s just say that there is still hope for a few more months of quality snowmobile fun. When we do get more snow this month and you have an opportunity to hit the trails, where will you go? We would love to hear your favorite snowmobile hot spots, hidden gems, and amazing trails. Here’s to hoping that the snow flies and we can blaze a few more trails in 2017.

4 Tips for Snowmobile Season

Temps have dropped and we’ve got plenty of snow, so if you haven’t already gotten out there on your sled, it’s time. We’ve put together a few reminders for when you hit the trails. Here are 4 Tips for Snowmobile Season.

4 Tips for Snowmobile Season - Moon Motorsports

Plan Ahead

Be sure to check the weather forecast and advisories. The National Weather Service has current conditions, forecasts and hazardous weather outlooks, snowfall totals, a section on winter weather safety, and more.

You’ll also want to take a look at trail reports and conditions. Minnesota has more than 21,000 miles of groomed snowmobile trails that are maintained by local snowmobile club volunteers. The DNR provides updated snow depth information and trail conditions. Don’t forget to check ice levels before riding on lakes or rivers. Read up on general ice thickness guidelines from the DNR before you go.

Protect Your Skin

It doesn’t take long for your skin to sustain damage from the winter sun, wind, and cold. Harmful UV rays can damage your skin even on cold, cloudy winter days. Protect any exposed skin with sunscreen. Apply 15 minutes before going outdoors, and then reapply every two hours. Use a lip balm with SPF of at least 30.

Watch out for frostbite. The colder the temperature, the less time it takes to get frostbite – even on skin that’s covered by clothing or gloves. Because one of the first indications of frostbite is numbness, you might not notice the signs. Frostbite commonly affects fingers, toes, ears, cheeks, nose, and chin.

Layer It Up

Don’t let subzero temperatures keep you indoors – just be sure to layer properly to stay comfortable, regulate your body temperature, and prevent hypothermia.

• A base layer wicks moisture away from the skin. Wear wool or a lightweight synthetic fabric, and avoid cotton.
• The middle layer is for insulation, trapping the warm air close to your body. Fleece and wool are good options.
• A shell layer protects against the elements like wind and snow.

Stop by Moon Motorsports to check out our selection of snowmobile gear and clothing.

Play It Safe

A few final tips for a safe and fun snowmobile season:

• Always wear a helmet and facemask
• Never ride alone
• Don’t drink before or during a ride
