Motorcycle Summer Safety
Congratulations! As motorcycle enthusiasts that live in the great state of Minnesota, we are here to officially say that we did it! We survived another Minnesota winter, waiting for the snow to melt, the grass to turn green, and the warm weather to stick around for a few months.
It is SUMMER, so let’s celebrate and ride. Speaking of, what are you riding this season? Do you have any special destinations in mind? Whether you were born to ride alone or you’ve got your squad by your side, we always like to share a few safety suggestions to kick off the season.
Trust No One
Just kidding. Sort of. While there are plenty of respectful drivers on the lookout for motorcycles, there are quite a few people that are just not paying attention. To make matters worse, add in the distraction of cell phones. You are your own best defense. Always be very aware of the drivers around you.
Oh, Deer!
Watch for deer. All year long. While there is an increase in deer related accidents during mating season in the fall, Minnesota’s large and active deer population is always cause for concern when you are on the road. Just another reason to be aware of your surroundings.
Weathering the Storm
When the weather turns bad, pull over and chill out. It isn’t worth trying to beat a storm or ride when the weather is challenging. Again, you may feel confident with your driving, but you never know how experienced the drivers are around you, especially in bad weather.
Dress for the Occasion
Although summer weather in Minnesota can be beautiful, it can also take a turn for the worse very quickly. Wearing proper motorcycle gear to protect from the sun is as important as protecting yourself from the cold and rain. What you are or are not wearing can make or break a ride. Not sure what you need, stop in and visit with our staff.
Tuned up and Ready to Ride
Make sure your motorcycle has been tuned up for the season. This not only gives you peace of mind when you are out for a ride, but it is also good for the health and life of your motorcycle.

Brand Spotlight – Honda
At Moon Motorsports, we are proud to carry a variety of outstanding brands of motorcycles. Each brand has their own story, shares a piece of our history, and has helped us build OUR story. This month, we would like to recognize Honda, which holds a pretty significant piece of our history.
Milo Moon, Sr. opened the doors to Moon Motorsports back in the mid-1950’s. What started out as a business that sold and serviced Plymouth and DeSoto automobiles, gradually shifted to motorcycles. Milo, a bike enthusiast, enjoyed selling motorcycles, servicing motorcycles, talking about motorcycles, and, of course, riding motorcycles. Enter Honda. Honda would be the first brand of motorcycles that Milo took on in his transition from the car business to the motorcycle business…and the rest is history (we couldn’t help, but say that).
A Big Shoutout to Honda
While our love for motorcycles hasn’t changed at Moon Motorsports, our company certainly has. We continue to grow and evolve, expanding our product lines and product knowledge from motorcycles to motorsports. So, it is with much enthusiasm that we give a great big SHOUT OUT to Honda! Thank you for being a part of the Moon Motorsports adventure.

Moon Motorsports – New Showroom Addition
If you haven’t visited our showroom lately, or if you are new to Moon Motorsports, we have exciting news. This past spring, we broke ground, expanding our current showroom to exceed over 20,000 square feet!
While we still have a month until the construction is complete, the transition has been amazing. Just a few short weeks ago, we kicked off this new adventure by removing a portion of one of our major walls, making way for the addition. Today, the outside walls and roof are set, and the inside concrete floor is in place.
Over the last few months, we have seen amazing progress. Check out our construction photos below.

Funday Everyday
You’ve heard of “Funday Sunday,” right? That day of the week dedicated to fun. When motorcycle lovers come together to forget about life for a while, and well, enjoy life for a while.
Like it or not, we have a limited number of warm weather days here in the Midwest. So, how about we forget about dedicating fun to just one day? Instead, how about something more like…fun every single day that you can escape, jump on your bike, meet up with friends, and hit the open road. While it might not be as catchy as “Funday Sunday,” it sure feels good to think about.

Ryan Dungey Wins 4th 450 SX Title
Ryan Dungey, Minnesota native and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing star, won his 4th 450 SX title in what race fans referred to as The Fight in Vegas, on May 8th, 2017.
The bike that helped keep the title? 450 SX-F Factory Edition
KTM 450 SX-F Factory Edition
Dungey, on his KTM 450 SX-F Factory Edition bike, started the final race of the season with a 9-point advantage over competitor, Eli Tomac. In order to maintain the 450 SX title, Dungey needed at least a 4th place finish in the race. Several times throughout the race, Tomac defended his position against Dungey, forcing him from the track, but Dungey stayed strong.
In the end, Jason Andersen took first place in the race, but Dungey, 2017 AMA 450 Supercross Champion, held tight to his 450 SUPERCROSS title for KTM.

Why Riding with a Partner is Good for Your Health
Ok, so riding with a partner isn’t on one of those top ten lists of things to do in 2017 to improve your health, but I bet I have your attention. Maybe there have been a few studies done on how surrounding yourself with others can improve your mood, but that isn’t what I am talking.
What I mean when I say “good for your health” is that riding in groups or with a partner can actually be a lifesaver. I do understand the need to be out on your own. I get it. There is a lone wolf in all of us. Plus, it is unrealistic to get the squad together every time you want to ride, but there is something to say about strength in numbers.
Whether you enjoy getting out on your snowmobile, motorcycle, ATV, or all of the above, think before you ride alone, especially when it comes to long distance runs or unfamiliar routes. Riding in groups or with a partner offers a safety net, in case anything should go wrong along the way.
If you are planning to ride alone, especially long distances or unfamiliar territory, let someone know. Leave as much information as possible, such as your route, any planned stops along the way, and when you plan on arriving at your destination. While this may sound like common knowledge, keep your phone charged and in a safe, dry, waterproof place, in case of an emergency.
Enjoy the ride.
